![]() It's not just the fact that it's a weak CPU. IMHO overclocking on that CPU is pointless. Both have their uses and pitfalls but at least you get the choice. You're left with ramped up baseclock and ramped up overall clock. You could ramp up both, the base clock and the multiplier. And that's where X and K models (and a few other unlocked models over the years) came in. That way the overall clock speed of the CPU ended up back at the original ballpark. These days the RAM bus speed is separate from CPU baseclock, but way back when you'd overclock the baseclock and the RAM as far as it went, took down the multiplier so it won't burn the CPU and enjoyed your extreme performance. To overclock RAM, you needed to overclock the baseclock on your CPU. ![]() Back in the day, overclocking RAM used to mean something. ![]() Which your's doesn't.Īnd counter to what people imply, that doesn't make it un-overclockable. Basically the same thing, they all have an unlocked multiplier. It was called Extreme Edition or X-models. Counter to what people here imply, there were no K-models back then. It's the "previous generation" - as Intel calls it - processor. ![]()
